Na tha sinn a' teagasg / What we teach
Gaelic Learners' classes are offered from S1 through to S6. No prior knowledge of the language is needed. Maybe pupils have, or had Gaelic in their family at one time. Maybe not though and they are just interested in finding out more about Scotland's language and rich Gaelic culture. Many pupils now are involved in traditional music through the Fèis movement. Learning Gaelic will grant them more of an insight into the culture from which many of their tunes and songs sprung. Maybe pupils are shinty players, the great sport of the Gaidheal, and would like to learn how to use the language on the field like the players that came before.
Both Gàidhlig Medium and Gaelic Learners classes are taught in the Academy, from S1 through to S6.
In Gàidhlig medium pupils in S1 and S2 have the opportunity to study Geography (Cruinn-eòlas), History (Eachdraidh) and Modern Studies (Nuadh Eòlas), as well as Gàidhlig itself. Studying these subjects through the medium of Gàidhlig helps pupils to considerably develop their fluency and vocabulary.
From S2 onwards they can progress with Gàidhlig and Cruinn-eòlas through into the senior phases, where they can achieve National, Higher and Advanced Higher level qualifications.
